Statistics Boot Camp
Current Course Offerings
Statistics Boot Camp
(4 Offerings - July & August)
Description
In this age of current technology it is clear that no matter what position you hold, you will need to know SOME basic statistics/ how to read data visualizations. Whether you're eventually the one creating reports in an Excel template or will be responsible for interpreting these reports, understanding the underlying statistical concepts and the potential they hold/constraints they face is key. The Statistics Boot Camp is intended to provide some of the essential concepts in Data Analytics & Statistics that any future professional in the Age of Data should have a basic understanding of, regardless of which industry/position they end up going into.
Logistics
Classes will be held virtually Monday through Thursday each week for 2 hours a day (either 12pm-2pm EST or 7pm-9pm EST depending on the session you've signed up for).
Instructor: Austin Menger
Target Audience: High school students with a basic understanding of Algebra. The program is intended for those that want to get ahead. The approach is a personalized one that stresses time spent with the instructor. No statistics background is required.
What is Needed: Students will need access to internet to log into the virtual software (WebEx), as well as the ability to use Microsoft Word, Powerpoint, & Excel. Note-taking is encouraged, and templates etc will be distributed by email directly to the students.
Pricing: $1999 for the 3-week package (due to the structure of the course, a boot camp session must be reserved for the entire time period it is hosted for).
Prerequisite: Basic Algebra
Course Components
Material Covered (Notes Provided to Fill-In): Fundamental statistical concepts: types of variables, appropriate numerical/visual representations, descriptive statistics, how to properly approach a new dataset, regression analysis, & proper sampling techniques.
Challenger Problems: Students will be divided into small groups (different groups each day) to work through some questions relating to the topics covered that day.
Application (Projects): Students will work through a project from inception to final deliverable (introducing the concepts and roles of a project proposal, proof of concept, & final project group presentation). A key part of this component is working through how to describe one's statistical findings to a non-statistical audience.
